Ensure that the most recent mandatory safety inspection has been conducted, and monthly services are carried out by a qualified Lift Service Provider.
What is the recommended frequency for mandatory lift safety inspections?
The frequency depends on the type of inspection. Annexure A inspections are conducted before the initial use, after an upgrade, or following a serious incident. Annexure B inspections occur upon completion of installation, at 24-month intervals, and whenever safety-critical items are identified during the inspection.
ANNEXURE A
COMPLIANCE INSPECTION TYPE: New terminology = Commissioning Document
WHO MAY INSPECT: Any person as deemed competent by the OHS Act
WHO ISSUES REPORT: Competent person
INTERVAL:
- Before the equipment is placed into use for the 1st time as well when an upgrade was done.
- If there has been a serious incident on the equipment
ANNEXURE B
COMPLIANCE INSPECTION TYPE: New terminology = Comprehensive Report
WHO MAY INSPECT: Only Registered Lift Inspectors
WHO ISSUES REPORT: Accredited Inspection Authority (AIA)
INTERVAL:
- Upon completion of installation and before the equipment is switched on for public use.
- At 24-monthly intervals, but the inspection must be done within the 24-month period. Any safety critical items identified during the inspection must be rectified immediately and checked by a lift inspector before the lift can be placed back into service.
- Non-critical safety items identified during the inspection must be rectified within 60-days of the date of issue of the Comprehensive report. Failure to complete the items will render the Comprehensive Report invalid, where after a new comprehensive report will need to be done.
